Khun Nonzee stopped by and answered a few of our questions about running the new X2 Villa in Chiang Mai. Here is the interview.
1. Tell us a bit about yourself?
I was born and grew up in Chiang Mai where many tourist attractions are located. I met foreigners from all over the world. So, I realized that English can be one of my hobbies. After graduated high school, I joined Chiang Mai Rajabhat University majoring in English education for my first bachelor degree and Business English for my second bachelor degree
2. And what your position involves?
I’m working in a private pool villa as Villa Manager as such I’m involved in all departments. The most interesting things of my position is I’m the one who provided all service to my guest directly, every morning I will cook breakfast for my guest and sometimes I drive them to the place they want to go. When I see guest smiling it makes me feel very proud to myself.
3. How did you get to this point in your career?
I was born in a family of cooking business owner, and grew up with cooking skill and client service. When I was 13, I had my first work experience —a summer job in school canteen, thus earning my pocket money while attending secondary school. Ever since I was a teenager, I doted in client service. It was my hobby, my passion, and my way of learning. I was different from most kids. I enjoyed spending my time in the kitchen with my family and in the restaurant with clients. It was this hobby that first gave me the opportunity to meet people from various backgrounds and strata of society. It also instilled in me a sense of responsibility and service mind. I start my career in hospitality business in 2005 with a boutique guest house and keep on developing my managing skill all the time my highest position that I gained is General Manager for Lanna boutique resort.
4.You recently joined the X2 family, what are your favorite aspects of the brand?
My favorite part of the X2 brand is the concept of simply luxurious and enjoyable holiday accommodation because most of the travelers today are seeking accommodation for their family or their friends group which provide privacy and facilities like their own home. The X2 brand is the best choice for them.5. Can you tell us the most challenging aspects of your job?
Let me explain about my job a little bit before I answer this question, my job is providing convenience to the guest, support them when they need any kind of help. So, you can imagine that when someone needed help or supporting even would like to ask a question. They will need it very quick. Same like my job, this is means I have to response all their needs every time and it must be the fastest high quality response. It keeps me reminding myself to have highest awareness all the time although it’s a late at night. I’m willing to support my guest 24/7.
6. We believe you have lived in many exciting places? Where has been your favorite? And where do you call home?
To answer this question I have to tell that I have been traveling to many countries. I used to work in the 5-star hotel in Europe and a very small guest house in north part of Thailand. My favorite place is “Budapest, Hungary”, I have been work at The Gellert Hotel, Danube river front 5-star hotel, and it was one of the greatest chances in my life to work in the biggest chain hospitality business in Hungary. As everyone knows “There’s no place like home”. Some might think that home is a place where they were born or where their house is located. But for me if I’m among the people that I love everywhere can be my home.
7. What skills have you learned previously which are useful in your new position?
My answer is I believed that in the hotel business “Guest will always be guest” the difference is just their nationality but their needs are similar. They expected services that they deserved. So, I strongly believe that my observant skill is the most useful for my job. If I could know what my guest want and support them suddenly before they come to ask you to do a favor. They will appreciate my service. This would be the most impressive for my guests.
8. What’s your top tip for visiting Chiang Mai? The top attraction a tourist should not miss out on?
In Chiang Mai city, there are a few hundred of temples. All of them are interested. I often tell my guest that if you have seen one temple, you have seen them all. This is not the case with Doi Suthep Temple. The temple is located at the top of a mountain, 15km from the city center. You can see the view of the whole Chiang Mai city from this temple. The history of the temple is often debated; however it is certain to be 627 years old. There is a giant set of stone steps at the entrance to the temple, with a total of 309 steps. For elderly people or people not physically fit enough to climb the challenging steps, there is also a tram provided. I can guarantee that this is one temple in Thailand that is worth to visit and it is a must do thing in Chiang Mai.
9. How dose Chiang Mai differ from the rest of Thailand?
As I am the native, I can tell that Chiang Mai is laid-back, creative and reverential. This is the city of mixture between modern and ancient cultural. It’s a city with heart. In reality, Chiang Mai is dynamic and modern without having lost its down-to-earth charm. There’s certainly traffic, pollution and ugly concrete buildings, but this is a very Thai place. Chiang Mai is famous for culinary both a place where visitor can learn how to cook Thai food or Northern Thai food and well known of the sleepless city where tourist can easily find fresh food in market, street food, restaurant beside the Ping river 24 hours. Nightclub, bars and discos that located around Chiang Mai’s old city are waiting for visitors.
10. What makes X2 Villa in Chiang Mai unique?
X2 Chiang Mai villa is a very special place and has an air of calm and peace. This is truly elegant and superbly designed. At X2 Chiang Mai the guest will feeling of a Lanna house and is visually beautiful and extremely comfortable. The landscape design is clever, simple and beautiful at the same time.
